WHY DO WE LOSE OUR HAIR
Why do men lose their hair?
In most men, the natural cycle of hair growth will begin to slow down as they get older. Basically, the growth phase of each hair strand will become shorter over time. This is known as Male Pattern Baldness or Androgenetic Alopecia.
Did you know that 2 out of 3 men will experience a form of MPB by the time they reach 35?
Why do women lose their hair?
Women can also suffer from hair loss as they age. About 50% of women will have mild hair loss as they age, and 20% of women will develop more moderate or severe hair loss.
Women’s pattern of hair loss is different to men, and it tends to start with the hair thinning on the top of the head. Women do not usually go bald, but their hair may thin quite severely as the hair follicles become less nourished and a large portion of the individual hairs enter the resting phase of growth at the same time - causing hair shedding and thinning.
So, what causes hair loss?
Genetics are the most common cause of hair thinning and loss. However, there are also some external factors that can result in additional hair loss. These include repeated harsh treatments applied to your hair (such as high heat), an unhealthy diet, hormonal changes and imbalances (particularly in women) and even some medications.
Is there a solution?
We know that losing your hair can affect your confidence levels and self-esteem. The sad truth of the matter is that hair loss is a reality for so many of us - but it's not time to despair just yet.
